Two Day Residential Social Animators Training Program

On 29th March, the training began with an opening prayer by GNWT Secretary Fr. Lawrence D’ Almeida. Participants from various surrounding villages across Medinipur had come for the training program. The resource person for the day was Dr, Ashis Chakrabort, Consultant at Ajim Prem who also works for child protection and evaluation of schemes in partnership with various organizations. The resource person dwelled upon Schemes related to Minority, Agriculture, Women and Child, Education, Self Help Groups, Community Development, facilities related to Tribal Communities and the Gram Panchayat. The resource person proceeded with making the participants understand that the root facilitator of all the schemes, facilities and development in the village is the Gram Panchayat and understanding this grass root level local government its structure and processes will help to work among the villagers. The resource person then made us understand the organization structure, composition, various departments and its functions and the works of the Gram Panchayat. The resource person stated the importance of self-awareness which is needed to make others in the society aware. He also stated that awareness is the sixth necessity that people require in their lives to grow. The resource person then made the participants do a group activity where they had to present their learning in a chart. In the second half of the day, the resource person addressed the various schemes, its eligibility, benefits, and processes of application. He also dwelled on various misconceptions that people have about various schemes and clarified them. He answered and threw light on various queries and cases presented by the participants. Another resource person, Mr. Lawrence Das, employee of DM office conducted a one-hour session where he discussed the realities of various schemes, and the various issues people face regarding its application. He also discussed the issues of the minorities. The day’s session ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Ajit Mandi and a closing prayer by Fr Lawrence D’ Almeida. A group photograph was also taken thereafter.
On 30th March, the day started with an opening prayer. Fr Reginald Fernandez, Dean of Medinipur Deanery presided over the first session where the participants were asked to name the various resources (Institutional, Natural and Human Resource) that they have in the villages they live in. The participants were then asked to plan a chart where they had to map the resources and also prepare a six-month plan that the participants would do in their areas making use of the resources and schemes. The participants did the planning in their respective groups. The second session was presided over by Fr Lawrence D’ Almeida. He threw light on the properties of a proper plan using SMART as a tool. He stated that any planning should have these properties which are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely. The participants thereafter presented their planning in groups. The third session was taken by Mr. Lawrence Das where he discussed about the schemes related to Elderly and Specially Abled and ways we can use these schemes to help them and also the ways in which we can tackle unemployment through vocational training and the issue of drop out children. The two-day training session ended with a short presentation of GNWT activities and vote of thanks by Fr. Lawrence D’ Almeida.
