International Day of the World’s Indigenous People

Gonpada Navjeevan Welfare Trust on International Day of the World’s Indigenous People organized a two-day seminar on 9th and 10th August on ‘Local Government and Social Security’ with the initiative of conscientizing the backward Adivasi people of Manoharpur GP-3. The seminar focused on the local government, provisions, benefits, and schemes available through the local government, approaching the local government about various social issues, knowing, and protecting one’s rights and learning how to mobilize the resources available in the villages so that they can take initiative towards their growth and development as well as be socially secure. The seminar had 77 participants who were Adivasi men, women, and youth, through whom the Trust seeks to being about a change in the community. The resource person for the two-day seminar was Dr Asesh Chakrabort who is a child protection and evaluation officer from Kolkata.
On, 9th August 2022, the day began with a cultural program where the participants celebrated and showcased their tribal culture and tradition.  The students who have completed their Tailoring Diploma Course from Manoharpur and Jhatia Tailoring Centers were presented certificates during the program. After the program, the participants attended the seminar by Dr. Asesh Chakrabort where he talked elaborately about the Local Government, its structure and composition, functions, provisions and how it can be approached.
On, 10th August 2022, Dr. Asesh Chakrabort conducted a workshop with the Trust staff members. He discussed about various measures that can be used to mobilize the people in accordance with the various specific areas that the Trust works on. The Workshop was followed by seminar where he talked about schemes available in the local government, the benefits it provides as well as the ways to avail them. He also spoke about the measures that can be used to mobilize the village resources.
The participants were encouraged to take responsibility and utilize the schemes available in the Local Government as well as to approach the local government regarding various social issue. They were also encouraged to make others in their villages aware about the schemes and provisions available through the Local Government.
